Welcome to my blog! I thought for my first post, the best thing to do would be a bit of an introduction to me, who I am, why I'm starting this blog etc.

My name is Caoimhe, pronounced Kee-va. It's an Irish name which is why it looks really weird and why the pronunciation has absolutely nada to do with the way it's spelt. I have this name because - you guessed it - I'm Irish. I'm 20 years old and a student in my third year studying International Management and Spanish at the University of Bath in England. This year is my year abroad and after completing my first semester studying in Chile, I have come home for a few weeks before heading off to do an internship in Madrid.

Studying in South America gave me the incredible opportunity to do lots of travelling, experience completely new cultures and learn so much, and it has seriously given me the travel bug as a result! Before I left I was such a homebird. Heck, I would get homesick whilst I was away at uni during the year and it's only a 50 minute flight from home! However, my 5 months in Chile have really changed that.



This is one of the main reasons why I have created this blog. I want a space where I can document my travels and exploring, where I can share my experiences and learn from those of other people, and where I can just ramble on about random thoughts and ideas I'm having.

So I hope you bear with me as I get to grips with the whole blogging thing!

Hello hello! Happy New Year! I hope the first week of 2020 has been a good one! With the arrival of a new year comes new resolutions. I am notoriously bad for keeping my list of resolutions after January passes and I was considering not making any this year. However, the more I thought about it, I decided to make just one for 2020: become more sustainable. I know the word 'sustainability' is being thrown round a lot at the minute and environmental activism is on the rise (which is amazing). I'm not the world's worst person for sustainability all things considered: I have a reusable water bottle which I bring everywhere, a travel mug which I am never without at uni, I don't use plastic straws, I bring my own bags to the supermarket... but there's so much more that I could be doing. My year abroad has involved spending 5 months studying at a university in Chile, and moving to Madrid just 4 days ago to spend a number of months doing an internship for a multinational company. Two very different things in two very different places. But they have two things in common: 1) Both are amazing opportunities to improve my Spanish and learn about the very diverse cultures of these two places and 2) Both are away from home. Before I went to university I was such a homebody, which is why I think a lot of people were surprised that I was even considering going to England to study. A Weekend in Zaragoza

As Madrid is right in the middle of Spain, it makes for a great location to travel from as nothing is too far away for a weekend trip. At the beginning of March, I took advantage of this and spent the weekend exploring the city of Zaragoza in the Aragón region of Spain, about 300km north-east of Madrid. I arrived in Zaragoza at 12pm after leaving Madrid on the 9am bus. It was a really comfortable journey and the bus is so cheap! If you can't decide between getting the AVE or the bus from Madrid to Zaragoza, I would 100% recommend taking the bus if you're not pushed for time. There are some super pretty views to enjoy on the way (well, what I saw when I wasn't napping anyway...)
